RCD | Safety Switch Testing

A Residual Current Device (RCD), also known as a Safety Switch is a device located in the distribution boards of most commercial and residential sites.

Safety switches are designed to detect very small leakages of current to earth and react by operating to stop the supply of electricity very quickly.

Devices can be either fitted in the switchboard or be portable and are designed to protect you and your employees against electrocution from Active to Earth faults, which are the most common form of electricity fatality.

Just like your portable appliances, the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2000 and Occupational Health & Safety Regulation 2001 requires that you test your RCDs to ensure that they are working correctly.

At EDZ Electrical. as a part of our testing procedure, our experienced team will test your RCDs and perform data capture to the Australian Standard 3760 as required as a part of building compliance.

Additionally, our technicians will perform both a “push button” and millisecond test to ensure that these devices are functioning within appropriate standards.

The information from these tests will be recorded and reported to you along with your appliance testing and tagging information.

RCDs | Safety Switches are designed to save lives and if you have gone to the effort to have these life saving devices installed in your workplace it only makes sense to ensure they work!
